I first came across ODESZA a couple of years back through Autograf’s remix of “All We Need” and their beats piqued my curiosity enough to begin following their growth from underground to the electronica powerhouses they are today.

Needless to say, when Singapore was announced as a stop for their A Moment Apart Tour, I was stoked. Stoked enough to trudge down to the Coliseum at Hard Rock as early as 6:30pm where LeNERD was warming up the enthused few.

ODESZA

Not long after, the American duo took to stage with their expected futuristic Intro opening accompanied with a spectacle of lights to the glee of the now much-fuller crowd. Decked in black, ODESZA kept a good tempo of their signature beats including “White Lies” which got many lips echoing the lyrics. The groove and atmosphere really picked up with “Late Night”, one of their newer tracks that solidified their music prowess, which judging from the response from the crowd, concurred whole-heartedly.

By mixing higher and lower tempo tracks, ODESZA certainly kept the now energetic crowd in anticipation for what’s to come. Might I add that up to this stage, I was mightily impressed with the lighting and visual effects so props to the team behind it.

The night dialed up further when highly anticipated vocal tracks “Higher Ground”, “Line of Sight”, and “Say My Name” were dropped to screaming fans who sang and danced along in what can only be described as audio-induced euphoria (and also a handful who had tears streaming down their cheeks). True to their reputation, plenty of tracks played were remixed and towards the end of the set, winded down with down-tempo tracks such as Falls and Across the Room with accompanying ‘summery’ visuals before wrapping up with “Sun Models”.

ODESZA

No live gig is complete without an encore and after persistent chants of “one more time” following the duo’s departure from stage, the musicians came back on to play several tracks including It’s Only before a dramatic close with lights shutting off completely.

ODESZA

As I walked out of the venue, I couldn’t help but reminisce at the amazing set, which I could only describe as a rollercoaster ride with all the right ups, downs, turns, and excitement. It was an amazing opportunity to have witnessed a live ODESZA performance, especially after hyping myself up from their previous Red Rock and Coachella sets and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

Huge props to Live Nation Singapore for putting up the show and the team behind the entire performance – it was nothing but top notch and I’d imagine those headed up North for Good Vibes would also have their minds blown.
