When The Jonas Brothers announced that they were working on solo side projects after releasing their fourth album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times back in 2009, I accepted the fact that I was probably never going to get to see them perform live as a trio in concert. Ever. Well, all that changed when the boys came down to Stadium Negara to perform in front of a small but loud crowd of approximately 3,000 fans. Personally, I expected there would have been more fans in attendance, but it seems like not that many people knew about the show or just chose to give it a miss.
I’ve never been much of a fan of indoor venues for concerts because I always feel that the sound gets muffled at times and it all just irks me. But despite by distaste for that, the boys gave a good performance overall. From the moment they came on stage to belt out one of their more popular songs ‘When You Look Me In The Eyes’, to when they closed out the show with ‘S.O.S.’ and ‘Burnin’ Up’, they kept the small crowd on their feet and singing along.
However, there were times where I felt like the boys lacked energy and they seemed to fail to communicate much with the audience. Instead of stopping after each song to interact with the crowd, most of the songs just seemed to flow into one after another and even though they performed around 20 songs, it felt like they only performed half of that. As loud and upbeat as the crowd in the pit were, I think the loudest they got was when the boys performed not one of their own songs, but a cover of Fun.’s hit single, ‘We Are Young’.
With the boys performing songs from their old albums as well as from their upcoming one (‘Let Go’, ‘First Time’ and ‘Wedding Bells’), I think the concert would have satisfied their hardcore fans who have waited years for this day to come but personally, the entire concert just left me expecting something just a little bit more from them.
