The indie rock trio from Florida had released their sophomore effort titled Spain last August which peaked at #138 of the US Top 200 Billboard Albums chart, a rather impressive feat. Being fans of the band, we figured we would provide them with some exposure in this region and featured them as our band of the month in October 2009 on the website.

Recently, we had the opportunity to have the band answer a few questions in a brief interview:

Where does the inspiration behind the music mostly come from?

Back in August we had the opportunity to interview one of Singapore’s heavy metal bands, Suicide Solution. With their third album released recently and a slot at Baybeats Festival, we managed to speak to the band about their music, the industry and songwriting amongst others.

Could you give us a brief introduction to the band for those who are unfamiliar with Suicide Solution?
Joe Suicide: We’re one of the longest running hard rock-heavy metal bands from Singapore.

You are now looking at Version Two of More Than Good Hooks [dot] com! As you can see from the layout, this is quite an overhaul from our previous one which was very simple and a tad all over the place. We’re excited for the change and hope you are, too.

Firstly, we would like to give a massive shoutout to Julia Zave for allowing us to use the awesome photo she took which now serves as our sidebar header image. The original image had the exact vibe we were after for the site, so we thank you for that!

Secondly, the announcement will be postponed until further notice due to circumstances beyond our control but we will inform you of it eventually.

The band has just completed the first string of tour dates in support of the new single “Addicted“, how were the shows?
The shows were a mixture of good and bad, but mostly good. The tour wasn’t organized all that well, and left to the last minute, so alot of people didn’t even know we were touring! The shows started off small and progressively got bigger towards the end of the tour. They were all fun shows though, regardless of how many people were there. Read more…

Kicking off our series of interviews is none other than our July & August Band of the Month, Empires. We couldn’t be more stoked to have been given this opportunity, and here’s a preview of the interview we had with guitarist Tom Conrad:

Does the name “Empires” have any significant meaning to the band, aside from how it came about?
We just wanted something simple but strong. Empires is a very self-sufficient group and we’ve always felt the more we can do on our own, the stronger we will be long term. So when Sean and I, coincidentally came up with the name on the same night, made sense to roll with it. Trying to come with a name you want to grow with is a hard thing to decide on. Read more…
